Reimagining a Primary Bathroom in Lake Tapps | Function, Flow, and Spa-Inspired Design

When it comes to remodeling a bathroom, sometimes the biggest transformation comes not from the finishes but from rethinking the layout entirely. That was the case for this full home remodel we completed in Lake Tapps, Washington, where we partnered with our client to design a custom primary suite that finally made their bathroom feel open, balanced, and relaxing.

The Problem: A Cramped, Inefficient Layout

The original bathroom had a tight shower space and awkward flow that made it feel small and uncomfortable. Storage was limited, and the overall layout simply didn’t support the daily routine of the homeowners. From the beginning, it was clear that a surface update wouldn’t be enough. We needed to go deeper and fully rework the layout to deliver a space that actually fit their lifestyle.

Our Solution: A Complete Layout Transformation

We didn’t just make minor adjustments. We completely reconfigured the primary bedroom, bathroom, and closet to open up space and create a functional suite with a layout that feels natural and peaceful.

At the heart of the new design is a spacious four foot by seven and a half foot walk-in shower featuring:

  • Two showerheads

  • A handheld sprayer for flexibility

  • An extra long niche for shampoos and bath products

  • A built-in bench for relaxing comfort

To balance the room, we installed a sleek eight foot floating vanity that provides generous counter space and storage while keeping the design clean and open. The toilet is now tucked discreetly behind the vanity, so it is no longer the focal point when entering the space.

We placed the tub and shower on one side and the vanities on the other, which helped create a sense of calm and flow. Every decision was made with intention, and the result is a bathroom that feels both efficient and inviting.

Design Style: Mid Century Meets Scandinavian Spa

The client wanted a space that felt warm and modern without being too stark. We leaned into a Scandinavian-inspired aesthetic with mid century touches, using clean lines, natural materials, and soft lighting to create a calming atmosphere. The floating vanity and minimal fixtures bring a modern edge, while warm wood tones add comfort and texture.

Behind the Scenes: A Full Rebuild from the Ground Up

This bathroom was part of a whole home remodel. We took the house down to the subfloor and rebuilt it from scratch, giving us the freedom to create a completely new layout. The entire remodel took about eight months, and this primary suite became one of the standout features of the home.
